Bergeron/Maigret reunion at FIP Silver Narbonne
Johan Bergeron and Adrien Maigret had not appeared together on court since the 2024 European Championships. At the FIP Silver in Narbonne, held from 16 to 21 June, one of France's best-known pairs makes a surprising return. On paper the reunion looks attractive, but the key question remains: are their old instincts still sharp enough to target the semi-finals?
Maigret finds his rhythm again on the French FIP circuit
For several months Adrien Maigret has confirmed his gradual comeback at the highest level. The player from the Paris region does not travel every week on the world tour, but he focuses on international FIP events in France. That shows he remains capable of unsettling even the strongest French pairs.
At the FIP Silver in Caen, Maigret alongside Benjamin Tison delivered one of the standout performances of recent weeks. In the round of 16 they beat Johan Bergeron and Timéo Fonteny after a three-set battle. The result reminded the circuit that Maigret is still a formidable opponent even after longer breaks.
From Rivesaltes to Marnes-la-Coquette
After an early exit at the FIP Bronze in Rivesaltes against Bastien Blanqué and Yoan Boronad, the Tison/Maigret pair bounced back quickly in Marnes-la-Coquette. They took revenge against Blanqué and Boronad and reached the quarter-finals. Against the young Spaniards Garcia and Zamora they narrowly missed the semi-finals: after three sets, physical fatigue tipped the balance in favour of their opponents.
Despite that defeat, Maigret's level remains impressive. Dangerous at the volley, powerful overhead and resilient in long rallies, his atypical style still troubles many rivals. His attacking instinct and ability to take the net early contrast sharply with Johan Bergeron's calmer, tactically structured game.
Complementarity as an opportunity
That contrast may be exactly where the interest of this renewed pairing lies. Maigret brings instinct and aggression, Bergeron structure, patience and smart point construction. Anyone who knows both profiles understands why their earlier partnership drew attention in France and why another attempt at the FIP Silver in Narbonne remains compelling.
At the 2024 European Championships Bergeron and Maigret already showed they could deliver crucial points for France under pressure. Their mental contribution in decisive matches was among the defining moments of that event. Whether that chemistry returns immediately after months apart is open, but experience from previous weeks together should help.
Bergeron's season with Fonteny stays uneven
2026 began for Johan Bergeron with high expectations around his new partnership with Timéo Fonteny. Early signs were promising, including successful qualification at the P2 in Newgiza. In Egypt the Lyon native even took a set off Juan Tello and Edu Alonso in particularly windy conditions.
Since that run results have become less consistent. Bergeron and Fonteny fell early in qualification at the P2 in Asunción and the P1 in Buenos Aires. On the FIP tour the pattern is similar: solid paths but a repeated ceiling in the quarter-finals. Three FIP Silver exits and one FIP Bronze stop all came before the semi-finals.
Bergeron nonetheless sticks to his line. Known as a hard worker on the circuit, the Lyon player still believes in the project with Fonteny and is convinced results will follow in time. The Narbonne interlude with Maigret could however give him fresh momentum and confidence before returning to his regular schedule.
Outlook for Narbonne
The FIP Silver in Narbonne will make Bergeron and Maigret one of the French attractions of the week. They are currently listed as the third entered pair and are regarded as credible semi-final candidates. With entries still open, the seeding picture may shift before play begins. Reaching the last four would already be a strong achievement for a duo that has not played together since the 2024 European Championships.
For fans and observers the event offers more than another FIP Silver. It is a test for two established players who combine different strengths and want to prove their pairing remains relevant in French padel. From 16 to 21 June we will see whether this unexpected reunion in Narbonne is only a brief episode or the start of a longer partnership.
